If you’re a pet owner, you’ll probably have wondered what your furry friends are up to all day when you can’t see them.
The Whistle 3 GPS Pet Tracker and Activity Monitor doesn’t give you a live video feed, but it does give you hourly updates on just how active, or how lazy, your best friend has been.
Part of being the best activity tracker for dogs is giving you regular updates on how your pet is doing that day.
One of the biggest pluses with the Whistle 3 is that this GPS tracker comes together with the activity tracker. If your companion happens to be a tad too active, you’ll be warned as soon as they’re in danger.
Just to make sure this tracker will be a plus (and not a pain) to your household, let’s look into the details.
- Product Dimensions: 1.8 x 1.4 x 0.6 inches
- Weight: 1 Ounce
- Suitable for pets starting at 8 lbs
- Lithium ion battery (included)
- Wi-Fi and AT&T Network cellular connectivity
Long Battery Life
With a battery life of up to a week, the Whistle 3 Tracker and Monitor performs exceptionally well.
Coming out of the box, it’s already charged enough to get started, though we recommend charging it up to the maximum, just so you can enjoy using it to its fullest from the start.
Battery use varies, whether you’re at home or walking the dog.
At home, the battery connects to the Wi-Fi, while out on the road, the system uses the AT&T network to collect data.
The cell phone app should alert you when you’re running low on battery, but it never hurts to keep an eye out during the first few weeks.
Home Sweet Home
When you’re starting up the Whistle 3, you’ll be asked to set up a home area.
This means linking the device to your home Wi-Fi network, as well as setting up the first perimeter where your dog is recognized as ‘being safe.’
While connected to Wi-Fi, the battery uses less power and sends more frequent updates about what your beloved pet is up to.
Long Tracking Range
The common bluetooth trackers have a very limited tracking range in comparison to the Whistle 3 Monitor.
Because it’s connected to the AT&T cellular network, should your dog escape, this tracker is able locate your pet up to thousands of miles away which is way more convenient than the average 50 feet.
Multiple Safe Spaces
Apart from your home network, you can also set up multiple other spaces as being a safe space for your dog.
As long as there’s a Wi-Fi network available, it can be added to the list.
If you have a regular dog walker, they can also be added to the app, letting you know if your dog has gotten its daily walk yet.
When you’re busy at the office, or at a bustling party, it might be easy to miss the very important alert saying your dog has left the safe zone.
Fortunately, the Whistle 3 Tracker won’t stop at just one alert. In addition to the app notification, you can also receive a text and email alert to make sure you notice before it’s too late.
This isn’t only a bonus, but an extra safety precaution for those who are known to neglect their device.
Small and Durable
The Whistle 3 Tracker and Monitor is small enough to not bother most dogs, and the unobtrusive grey colour gets it to blend in no matter the colour of your friend.
It’s designed with even the most active dogs in mind so you won’t have to worry about it getting too damaged when your furry ones are tossing about outside.
At the same time it will protect the inside of the tracker from any amount of dirt, so the hardest digger can barely scratch it.
The casing is waterproof and can handle being submerged in water for long periods of time, making it an excellent fit for pups who love swimming.
This is another thing you can worry less about if you happen to be taking your dog out in the rain.
Just be sure to give it a little dry when you can and it should keep on kicking.
Check Your Area Coverage
The Whistle 3’s excellent ratings come at a price; if you’re not in an area with functioning AT&T coverage, you probably won’t get frequent updates.
Even though it might be best GPS pet tracker out there, you do need something to transmit those signals.
Perhaps the biggest drawback of the Whistle 3 is that all data is deleted every 24 hours. In combination with the lack of a ‘share’ function, it means that all info about your hiking trips will be lost.
This is one feature we would like to see improved in the future, but with a bit of luck that will be the case.
The Whistle 3 does receive occasional updates, but if having access to data is an instant priority, careful shoppers may want to look around a bit more.
Charging is a Must
Long battery life is a blessing, but it also introduces the risk of forgetting to actually charge.
Forgetful owners may want to put this on their daily calendar, since a GPS tracker only works as long as it’s got juice to run on.
The Whistle 3 GPS Pet Tracker receives full marks for pet safety and general activity tracking for the majority of dog owners.
When your best friend happens to be a pup with pep, your overall sense of security can only benefit with regular updates about just where they are. And since you’ll get an immediate alert when they leave their home area, there’s no need to fear that they’ll wander off too far.
It’s not an exaggeration to call the Whistle 3 the best GPS and pet activity tracker. Its long battery life and small size are attractive to any pet owner.
Though if you have a dog that needs medical attention, it would be advised to invest in a more specialized activity tracker.
In combination with an excellent track record for pet location, anxious owners can rest easy with the Whistle 3 Pet Tracker and Activity Monitor.
